Carlos Dias

"I do what I like, I like what I do"

Carlos Dias is a typical figure, the real 'habitué' of the country's craft fairs. Can't you see who it is? Now, do you see those pieces that have no coloring whatsoever and are molded "naturally"? This is the signature of Carlos Dias, who creates peculiar nativity scenes, figures of Christ and the Last Suppers. "I don't use clay coloring, because the clay itself is diverse and has several shades that I use for contrasts". He is happy and that translates to his work: "I do what I like, I like what I do". He is more of a self-taught person, he did not attend school, but he has his references. The idea of mixing clay that has no paint but that has color is his and that was how it came to be, preserving the traditional while introducing new ideas.

The market is there. He works mainly for Brazilian emigrants "great connoisseurs of Portuguese crafts, namely religious" and "malta nova".
