Ukulele
The cavaquinho in Portugal has been played for almost two centuries and is believed to have been derived from the Hellenic Tetracordiums. There were many Portuguese emigrants who, in their travels overseas, took place in the suitcases for this musical instrument. This was the case of Madeiran João Fernandes, born in 1854, the first to take the cavaquinho to Hawaii. Leaving Madeira on a sailboat on August 13, 1879, he worked in Honolulu. The locals recognized the sound quality of the cavaquinho and called it “Ukulélé”, which means “jumping flea”. With a unique sound, Cavaquinho has the capital of Braga in the municipality of Braga. In this collection we present the different models of this stringed instrument.
